8:01 a.m. Update: Building a total loss

Jun 25, 2009

Inspectors from the Green Bay Fire Department are likely to be on the scene all day, seeking clues to the origins of the fire that destroyed a 17-unit apartment building on the UW-Green Bay campus. University officials say the building at 3334 Walter Way, also known as Building 109, is a total loss. The loss is estimated in excess of $3 million.

More detail on early dispatch to the scene: A 911 call was placed at 5:13 a.m., with Green Bay fire and campus Public Safety units responding immediately. Responders quickly determined the units were unoccupied. Building 109 is one of nine two-story "original" apartment buildings on campus, and of them, the structure most distant from the central campus and closest to Circle Drive.
